Easy Installation: Setting up the KMC Smart Tap was a breeze. It was as simple as plugging it into a standard electrical outlet and connecting it to my home Wi-Fi network. The included user manual provided clear instructions, and the entire process took just a few minutes.
Compact Design: The compact design of the Smart Tap is fantastic. It doesn't take up much space and fits neatly into any standard outlet. The sleek and modern appearance blends seamlessly with my home decor.
Smart Control: The primary feature of the KMC Smart Tap is its ability to be controlled remotely through a smartphone app. Using the KMC Smart app, I can conveniently turn on or off any device plugged into the Smart Tap, even when I'm away from home. This feature has been incredibly convenient, especially for managing devices such as lamps and fans.
Voice Control: The Smart Tap is compatible with popular voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Integration with my existing smart home ecosystem was effortless, allowing me to control my appliances with simple voice commands. It's incredibly convenient to be able to control the Smart Tap hands-free.
Scheduling and Automation: One of the standout features of the KMC Smart Tap is its scheduling capabilities. Through the app, I can create customized schedules for each plugged-in device. This automation feature has helped me save energy and make my home more efficient. I love being able to set my coffee machine to turn on automatically in the morning or have the lights turn on and off at specific times when I'm away.
Energy Monitoring: Another impressive aspect of the Smart Tap is its energy monitoring feature. It provides real-time energy consumption data for each plugged-in device, allowing me to track and optimize their energy usage. This has been instrumental in helping me identify energy-hungry appliances and make informed decisions about my energy consumption.
Reliable Performance: Throughout my usage, the Smart Tap has delivered consistent and reliable performance. The app is responsive, and the connection between the device and my smartphone has been stable. I haven't experienced any connectivity issues or unexpected disruptions.
Overall, I highly recommend the KMC Smart Tap to anyone looking to add smart functionality to their home. Its ease of installation, intuitive app, voice control compatibility, scheduling capabilities, energy monitoring, and reliable performance make it a standout choice in the smart plug market. With the Smart Tap, I have gained greater control over my appliances and achieved a more efficient and convenient living environment.
I also use Sonoff S31 plugs with Tasmota, but those can be disassembled nondestructively and firmware flashed to Tasmota with a Serial connection and VCC/GND/SCL/SDA pins on the ESP8266 within. In comparison, the KMC Smart Tap units can also be disassembled with a Philips screwdriver, but there are no programming pads on any of the PCBs to reflash the firmware of the ESP8266 chip. Soldering directly to the ESP could be an option, but there could also be circuitry on the PCB that would prevent the firmware from flashing.
The method that worked for me in December 2023 was Tuya-convert, which doesn't require any physical modification or soldering. What this means is that this KMC device uses the same firmware as thousands of other device models, all compatible with the Tuya Smart Life IoT cloud software. Older versions of the Tuya firmware have the ability to be reflashed to a custom firmware using the software in a GitHub repository from ct-open-source called tuya-convert. It needs a computer running Linux that also has a WiFi card, so a Raspberry Pi, laptop, or desktop with WiFi is necessary. Once installed and working though, it's as easy as running the code on the computer while putting the KMC Smart Tap 30608 into pairing mode. I had some issues getting it to connect, but after about five attempts it started working. I think close proximity to the WiFi antenna was imperative.
As for the features of the KMC Smart Tap 30608, this device is special among Tasmota devices because it has three independently controlled outlets, and one passthrough always-on outlet. The HLW8012 power monitoring chip measures the current of the three relay-controlled outlets but not the always-on outlet. The plug occupies two outlets, with the bottom one having the actual plug and the top plug having a plastic stick that aligns with the ground to try and provide stability. I found that this plug very easily pulls out from the outlet due to its size which is disappointing, and probably would have preferred the top plug to be the real plug rather than the bottom. Another design feedback is that the power button blue LED is extremely bright, but thankfully in Tasmota it can be customized.
All in all though I'd buy this again, so long as it still supports Tasmota via the tuya-convert method.

My only real complaint is that it has no actual timer in the traditional sense. You can't just tell it turn on for 1-2 hours.. you have to manually set up a schedule every time if you want to have it turn on for certain number of hours. So for example, if its 9:35pm and you want to turn in for an hour, you have to set a schedule for it to turn off at 10:35pm. So compared to the the Kasa, it's one or two extra steps to set up a schedule instead of just telling it be on for a certain number of hours/mins.
